Class Overview:
Mara 283-10 is a hands-on course designed to familiarize students with enterprise-level tools and skill sets such as Preservica, Sharepoint, and WordPress.
Midterm Project:
The midterm project for this class was to develop a Sharepoint site that acts as an intranet site for an organization. Using a myriad of features, the site should be functional and serve as a records repository.
For my Sharepoint site I made a digital asset management system intranet and alert hub for Clinique. The homepage has a calendar of previous and upcoming releases, a DAM news feed, as well as a quick links bar to a number of useful pages, and a link to the DAM blog.
The site hosted features such as previews of our seasonal ads, a bug tracker, discussion boards, and governance meeting minutes as well.
Takeaways:
Creating a completely functional intranet site around promoting digital asset management has provided me with a translatable hard skill that I can take with me in my career. Advocating for the use of DAMs within an organization is one of the most important pillars of a successful program. User adoption occurs best when we set people up with easy and abundant tools and knowledge to succeed. A part of the learning outcomes from this certificate is to apply principles of advocacy and organization to physical and digital information items, and that is a key takeaway for me from this project.
