INFO 284-15  supports the following core competencies:
F – Use the basic concepts and principles related to the selection, evaluation, organization, and preservation of physical and digital information items.
H – Demonstrate proficiency in identifying, using, and evaluating current and emerging information and communication technologies.
N – Evaluate programs and services using measurable criteria.

Class Overview:
INFO 284-15 focused on digital asset curation and lifecycle. The class teaches and applies best practices as it relates to actually creating and managing a collection of assets.

Final Group Project:
The final project for this class was to identify a potential digital curation project and develop an entire archiving strategy.  Everything from receiving, digitizing, appraising, preserving, metadata tagging, storage, and access needed to be accounted for.

My group for this project chose the River Street Anthology project for our subject.  This is a real Michigan music preservation project started by Matt Jones.  We took this project and rebuilt the entire strategy to accommodate growth, better process, and assets.

You can view the final paper here: The River Street Anthology: A Digital Curation Work Plan

Takeaways:
Within this project we needed to use the knowledge we learn through the course to form a complete preservation strategy. This project took the knowledge we accrued throughout this entire class and condensed it into a full end to end work plan. We had to take each lessen and apply it holistically to a real world case.

Beyond being able to develop curation and preservation strategies, I also developed fantastic teamwork skills. With this project in particular, we managed to communicate effectively, listen to and build upon each others’ ideas, and work seamlessly through digital tools such as Zoom and Google Docs.
