Final Group Project:
The final project for this class was a 12 page paper creating a project plan for a digital asset management system implementation.  The objectives of the DAM were left up to the student, but the implementation and metadata modeling needed to marry with the DAM requirements. Everything from the metadata model, future workflows, file formats, technical needs, and even DAM vendor needed to be accounted for.

I chose a fictitious ad agency and built a plan for that company to achieve a functional asset library and distribution system for global use.

Takeaways:
This project required me to use my imagination to start with a set of requirements and build a DAM solution around them.  The research I did provided excellent knowledge of current and future DAM capabilities as well as how to vet a DAM system.

The most important lesson from this project was that not all DAMs are alike.  Finding a DAM that fits your requirements including functionality and current/optimal workflows is the most important piece of the puzzle.  Choosing a DAM that can’t do what you need will lead to sunk costs, lost time, and poor user adoption.
